Ping Pong | Modern Thai. All-Pink. Newstead.

A cool, fun, super instagramable modern Thai restaurant located in Newstead’s Gasworks, Ping Pong is the brainchild of the owners behind West End’s Morning After and Newstead’s Yolk and is an absolute must-visit.

Since officially opening its doors a little over a month ago, Ping Pong has quickly become one of the hottest foodie spots in the city, and with one visit we can see why.

Before you even have a chance to peruse the food menu the first thing that will undoubtedly strike you is the stunning, photogenic, all-pink décor – think pink picnic tables, pink floor, pink walls, pink bar, pink stools, pink bench setting and even pink Buddha statues; everything is pink, or is it? If you wander down to the back of the restaurant, you’ll discover an out-of-sight, secret room, that is in fact not pink at all, rather, inspired by the Thai jungle, all-green. The other quirky, unmissable design element is the multi-coloured globe lights reminiscent of ping pong balls that float above the entire venue.

In terms of food, Ping Pong’s menu has been designed to share and features a mix of both familiar and creative dishes, – authentic Thai with a 2020 twist - from flavoursome, authentic Thai curries and stir-fries to noodles and delicious bar snacks. Standout dishes include the crispy Peking Duck Spring Rolls, the moreish Sriracha and Honey Chicken Baos, the delicious Caramelised Pork Betel Leaves, the slow-cooked lamb neck Rendang Curry and Holy Basil Crispy Prawns. If you can’t decide or with a large group, two banquet menus are available which gives you a taste of everything.

Notably, almost everything on Ping Pong’s menu is gluten-free and there are plenty vegetarian options also.

To drink and quench your thirst, Ping Pong has a short, but sweet cocktail menu, inclusive of seasonal Thai-inspired alcoholic slushies, as well as a selection of tap beers and wines.
